Bio

Dawn Bouman, PhD, specializes in Rehabilitation Psychology and Medical Psychology, with a particular interest in helping people cope with traumatic injuries and chronic medical illnesses.  Since 1992 she has served as a clinical psychologist at the Drake Center in a variety of roles including direct clinical care, program development, and leadership.  She also sees patients at HealthSouth on the Drake Center campus.  Dr. Bouman’s experience with the diverse population of patients at Drake enables her to provide expert assessment and therapeutic intervention.  In addition to the compassionate assistance she brings to her patients, she is a strong believer that education and support of patients’ families are integral parts of quality care.  Her leadership roles at Drake include serving as assistant director of the Traumatic Brain Injury Program for two years.
Dr. Bouman also excels at supervising the doctoral level graduate students and post-doctoral fellows.   She has directly supervised the clinical work of 40 doctoral candidates, 6 post-doctoral fellows, and one master’s level clinician. She has held adjunct appointments at the University of Cincinnati’s Department of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation, as well as their Department of Psychology.
In addition to presentations at local and national conferences, she has written and published numerous articles in the areas of injury prevention, traumatic brain injury, neuropsychology, and geropsychology.  Most recently, she co-authored a chapter in The Handbook of Rehabilitation Psychology published by the American Psychological Association and contributed to Encyclopedia of Clinical Neuropsychology.  She also serves as an invited reviewer for the Journal of Head Trauma Rehabilitation.
She earned her PhD and MA in clinical psychology from the University of Missouri-Columbia.   Dr. Bouman was awarded the Professional Presentation Travel Fellowship at the University of Missouri Graduate School, and the American Psychological Association’s Science Directorate Student Travel Award. She completed her internship in rehabilitation psychology, clinical health psychology, and neuropsychology at the Missouri Health Sciences Psychology Consortium at the University of Missouri-Columbia School of Medicine.
