George T. Mandybur, MD

Dr. George Mandybur is a neurosurgeon at the James J. and Joan A. Gardner Family Center for Parkinson’s Disease and Movement Disorders and the UC Epilepsy Center. He is director of the NeuroRestorative Program at the UC Neuroscience Institute, a neurosurgeon at the Mayfield Clinic in Cincinnati, and associate professor of neurosurgery and director of the division of functional and stereotactic neurosurgery at the UC College of Medicine. 

  

During his residency training at Loma Linda University in California, Dr. Mandybur was involved in one of the first deep brain stimulation (DBS) procedures in the United States. He has since performed more than 800 DBS procedures for Parkinson’s disease, essential tremor and other movement disorders. He is currently working with the Mood Disorders Center to make DBS treatment for obsessive compulsive disorders available at the UC Neuroscience Institute.

Dr. Mandybur has extensive training and experience in the surgical treatment of chronic pain syndromes, including failed back syndromes and facial pain syndromes.

Prior to coming to Cincinnati, Dr. Mandybur was the director of stereotactic and functional neurosurgery and an associate professor of neurosurgery at the University of Mississippi Medical Center in Jackson.

Dr. Mandybur enjoys attending Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra concerts in his spare time and is an avid recreational tennis player. He is a longtime supporter of the Sunflower Revolution bike ride, and he co-founded the “Serve an Ace for Parkinson’s” fundraising event in 2013.
