Bio

Ronald Warnick, MD, is the Medical Director of the UC Brain Tumor Center and a neurosurgeon at the UC Neuroscience Institute and the Mayfield Clinic. He is Professor of Neurosurgery and Radiation Oncology and the John M. Tew, Jr., MD, Chair in Neurosurgical Oncology at the UC College of Medicine. He is also Co-Director of the Precision Radiotherapy Center in West Chester, Ohio. He was Chairman of Mayfield from 2004 through 2012 and President in 2011 and 2012.
Dr. Warnick specializes in the treatment of brain tumors, and his clinical research into new treatments for malignant glioma and metastatic brain tumors has been widely published in peer-reviewed journals. In the mid-1990s, under his direction, UC became one of the first four centers in the country to use gene therapy for the treatment of recurrent brain tumors. Dr. Warnick was later honored for that pioneering work with the Mahaley Clinical Research Award and the National Brain Tumor Foundation Award for Excellence in Clinical Research. Dr. Warnick has continued to oversee research in the areas of radiation seeds and chemotherapy wafers, frameless radiosurgery and radiotherapy, multimodal brain imaging and tumor biomarkers.
Dr. Warnick earned his MD with honors from the University of Rochester, in Rochester, New York and was initiated into the Alpha Omega Alpha medical honor society. He completed his internship in general surgery and neurosurgery residency at New York University and his neuro-oncology fellowship at the University of California, San Francisco. He came to Cincinnati in 1991 as Director of the Division of Surgical Neuro-Oncology.
He served as Chairman of the American Association of Neurological Surgeons/Congress of Neurological Surgeons Section on Tumors from 2005 to 2007. He has given more than 130 national and international presentations, has authored or co-authored 61 journal articles and has trained 43 neurosurgical residents and neuro-oncology fellows. He has been included in the Best Doctors in America® national database since 2004, and he was named a Health Care Heroes finalist (provider category) by the Cincinnati Business Courier in 2007.
Dr. Warnick was part of the Leadership Cincinnati team that created Project Heart ReStart, which has donated 192 automatic external defibrillators (AEDs) to non-profits and has provided CPR training to more than 3,200 people. Dr. Warnick is a member of the United Way’s Tocqueville Society and is an avid supporter of CASA (Court-Appointed Special Advocate) for Clermont Kids.
