Providing Health Care for People with Muscular Dystrophy

The UC Neuromuscular Center serves as the Southern Ohio Adult MDA Clinic, providing health care services for people with more than forty-two neuromuscular disorders from Southern Ohio, Northern Kentucky and Eastern Indiana. Through a grant from the Muscular Dystrophy Association (MDA), the MDA Adult Clinic helps defray the cost of selected services that may not be covered by insurance or for patients without insurance. Patients must be registered with the MDA to qualify. Services include:

• New patient visits and follow-up visits
• EKG testing
• Some specialized lab tests
• Flu shots

The Adult MDA Clinic is available at two locations:

• University of Cincinnati Medical Center in Clifton
• West Chester Hospital in West Chester, Ohio

Patient and Family Support Groups

Clinicians at the UC Neuromuscular Center provide counseling and guidance at the following support groups:

• Myasthenia Gravis Support Group – takes place on the second Saturday of every other month at the Mayerson JCC.
• ALS Support Group – takes place on the 2nd Monday of every month. Contact the ALS Association’s Central & Southern Ohio Chapter at 866-273-2572.

Additional Services

The Southern Ohio MDA also provides additional services:

• Loan closet: Provides loaned equipment such as manual wheel chairs, power wheel chairs, strollers, walkers, hospital beds, crutches, hoyer lifts, shower chairs, transfer boards, bedside commodes, toilet raise, etc. for as long as is needed
• Equipment repairs: provides repairs to equipment from the loan closet, for up to $500/year
